Acoustics Simulation of the Flow-Induced Noise in the Wake of a Car Side Mirror:

This example considers the flow over a full automobile geometry with an attached side mirror.  An initial set of statistics for the acoustics solver were established on a standard RANS mesh and the NLAS solver was then run on a reduced mesh with far-field absorbing layers.  The first figure on the right shows the streamwise vorticity in the mirror wake, computed using the disturbance equations.

The lower figure on the right shows a comparison of sound pressure levels (in decibels), compared with experimental measurements at a point in the mirror wake.  Favorable agreement is obtained for both broadband and tonal components.
